Major Topic Assignment #3: Academic Plan

There are many different careers that Butler offers training for and I am interested in a quite a few of them, but only two of them I’m I interested seriously so. My main attractions are to Zoology or Massage therapy, because not only do these two subjects hold my interest and suite my personality but they also share many of the same courses as well. For my major though I have chosen Massage therapy because I hope to one day become a masseuse, because giving massages have been something that I enjoy doing and I seem to hold some natural talent for it as well. The pre-requirements for a Masseuse includes English, Math, Natural Science, Psychology, and must be a certified Message therapist. My most challenging course will be math most probably. I’m not very good with math in fact I completely hate it, and because I only seem to excel at things I enjoy if I hate doing something then I’m terrible at it. While Natural science and English on the other hand I greatly enjoy except for when I have to write lengthy reports on this or that. I have always enjoyed learning about nature and the world around me and I sometimes enjoy reading the old classics short stories and novels. I believe that with the support of my family and the occasional help from my teachers that I will be able to pass college with flying colors and gain my degree while maintaining a part time job as well.

Major Topic Assignment #5: Community Service

A major concern of mine within our community would be the Air quality. Due to rising amount of carbon monoxide alongside with Nitrogen and other chemical pollutants the air not only in Kansas but around the entire world the air is suffering from pollution caused by cars, factories, refrigerators, and other household appliances and chemicals. Air pollution can cause serious problems such as acid rain, smog, and Accumulation. Acid rain can destroy entire crops of corn and damage certain kinds of aquatic life while smog is a whole collection of air pollutants and humidity mixed together, and accumulation is when nitrogen sinks down into the ground and mixes with the water we drink, but there are ways to combat air pollution. For starter if we all started to walk more to our destinations so long as they are within reasonable range of course. Then we can save gas and decrease is pollution, and another good way is to car pool as much as possible. Also to decrease and clean the carbon monoxide in the air we can all plant trees, flowers, bushes or whatever kind of plant. Planting trees will not only help the air but the local wild life as well by providing both shelter and food. Also instead of using chemicals to kill of weeds and insects go to your local library or to a web site and find environmentally safe and historically effective way to protect your garden. An old way of getting rid of aphids from ones garden is to introduce Ladybugs to it. There are many more helpful hints info on air pollution on the following websites. http://www.onlinediscountmart.com/cogape.html

Major Topic Assignment #7: This I believe

I have a firm belief that staying relaxed or being patient and not getting over stressed about things or problems is major key to success. If a person gets all panicked and stressed over something like a college paper then their bound to make mistakes. I for example have written many college papers and while some of them have a little past their due date they where still good papers that I got good grades on even though they would have been better if I hadn’t taken my time and had rushed and gotten them in on time. I believe though that if I had rushed on my papers then I certain that I would have made mistakes that I wouldn’t have caught on my own such as spelling the teachers name wrong or writing run on sentences or simply forgetting to write down the source of a quote. All of these things would have cost me more points than turning it in late but with all spelling and grammar being proper. Staying relaxed is an important key to fishing, hunting, or something more extreme such as disarming a bomb or climbing up a cliff. I don’t know much about bombs, climbing cliffs, or hunting so I’ll talk about fishing a subject I am most familiar with. Fishing can be an extreme and demanding sport and if you don’t known how to relax and stay calm for several hours at a time then you’re not going to be able to catch the big ones. A very good example is when I and my dad go down fishing for Spoonbill every year. Now you really need some patience for these fish and a lot of endurance too because now matter what kind of bait you use these fish will not bite. Spoonbill are one of the few fish you have to snag in order to catch them and what you do is get a large pole and a heavy fishing line along with a very big hook at the end of it. In order to snag a Spoonbill you have to cast your line out into the river and just yank and reel yank and reel. I have to do this several time for many hours and this is probably one of the most frustrating forms of fishing because a person can go all night and not hook a single fish. So what you have to remember is to stay calm because getting all bent out of shape isn’t going to help and just have fun.

Major Topic Assignment #6: Academic Dishonesty

I believe that it is important to possess personal integrity or to have a morale code. Everyone needs something that they truly believe in something that they can strive to protect and hold on to when things are at their darkest, because integrity can give a person focus. Integrity is an important aspect of being a leader, because a leader who possesses integrity can earn the loyalty and devotion of those who follow him and well be remembered in reverence. While a leader who rules with only a show of brute force will gain only the glares of fear and scorn. He would be a leader who could trust no one and no one would trust him. Also to gain positions and status through dishonest means is not only morally degrading but can also put you in a position that may be very hazardous to either your health or your reputation or both! An example is if you where to cheat on a test or quiz instead of studying for it then you didn’t really learn what you needed or were indented to learn. Now while that may not seem such a big deal right now it could be a very important part of your future job or career. This is why I believe being truthful to your friends and family is important, and even if they aren’t true to you then should still be truthful to them besides if they get caught for their own lies then it’s their own fault.

Major Topic Assignment #4: Butler Resources

Many people have either financial, or study problems, and sometimes both problems at once. Now many people rather than opening up and asking for help would prefer to just struggle along on their own for who knows what reason. But you don’t have to do it alone anymore. Here at Butler County Community College there are several resources for students who have academic or financial problems. For those who have trouble in school the Academic Achievement Center is willing to help students by giving individual study courses that are fitted to your own schedule. Major Topic Assignment #2: Time Management

I like everyone else my age have several responsibilities not only to myself but to my family, my workplace, and my college teachers. To my family I have a responsibility to help clean the house, take care of the animals, and help take care of the yard. To my employer I am responsible for being on time and working for the money that I am paid to work for and to help keep the store clean. To my college teachers I must be on time to class and to get my assignments completed on time. Unfortunately I am a horrible procrastinator and I am almost always late to school I can’t stand homework so I always put it of to the last minute. Goofing off and not doing what I'm suppose to be doing is a favorite hobby of mine, and sometimes I just completely forget things altogether. I've was like this all through high school and whenever I was asked about my grade I usually lied in order to get out of it, but by doing this I hurt my parents and this also made me feel bad. Finally though I've gotten most of my act together I still play around a little here and there, but all work and no play makes me a dull boy. Of course with the new schedule that I made myself my grade has improved a lot thanks to my organization chart. On it I have prioritized my most important assignments to my least ones, when each is due, and how much time they should take me. My college grades are far better than my high school grade now that I know how to manage my own time better, and I don't have to lie to my parents anymore.

MAJOR TOPIC ASSIGNMENT #1: Change

Adapting to changes is often necessary but not always easy for me or anyone.
Change in life I believe can be compared to a small brook or stream. All the creatures within the
water depend on its constant changing flow. So long as the water keeps moving bringing with food
and oxygen and caring away the compost and dead. Then the creatures that live within it will
continue to live, but if the change of the water is stopped. Then eventually the creatures that
lived there will die, because without the flowing water bringing them both food and air.
They can neither eat nor breath. Eventually all the plants that keep the water clean sicken and
brown. The died compost gathers and begins to decay spreading sickness. In time the brook
becomes a mud hole.People are as dependent on change as any other creature alive on this earth.
I have thankfully managed to adapt to the changes demanded of me from both work and college.
Do to the fact that my place of work is owned by my father, who wants for me to go and do well
in college. Has made it easier on me by changing my work schedule to fit alongside my college
schedule. As well as letting me work on my homework during the quite less busy times of the day.
College has been made easier on me thanks to the support and aid of both my teachers and my
friends at work. So I count myself very lucky to have the change made much easier for me
than it has been for others.
